Animal Health (Livestock)

The line of complementary feed additives based on dehydrated yeast Kluyveromyces marxianus fragilis B0399, confirmed for multiple health and performance benefits in different monogastric and polygastric animals, has been approved so far by feed regulatory institutes and ministries in USA, Europe, Brazil India and other extra-EU countries.

K. marxianus is a “traditional” but ‘‘non-conventional’’ dairy yeast, which has emerged from the shadow of its cousin species, Kluyveromyces lactis in the last two decades. This is mainly because of its traits that render it specifically suitable for industrial application, such as thermotolerance, the capacity to assimilate a wide range of sugars (lactose in particular), secretion of lytic enzymes, but also its association with an ancient “miraculous” fermented beverage, kefir, known for its numerous pro-health beffects for quite a long time.

Kluyveromyces marxianus fragilis B0399 has been isolated from kefir in mid nineties and studied in Turval Laboratories ever since. The substations scientific research done by Turval together with numerous Italian and foreign Universities and Institutes led, in 1999, to filing of the patent for the production of this specific strain.

Kluyveromyces marxianus fragilis B0399  improves livestock performance across different stages of life by increasing feed efficiency with direct effect on milk and meat production in dairy type animals and meat type animals.

In dairy cows it can improve milk yield (up to 4% more milk production)

In piglets, calves and beef cattle it can improve growth (auxinic effect; in piglets up to 7%)

In broilers it improves feeding efficacy /decrease food conversion index (up to 8,5%)

The effect of feeding Kluyveromyces B0399 on the INTESTINAL FUNCTION:

Stimulation of Kluyveromyces B0399 Immunomodulatory potential:

  • Capability of K.marxianus cell components to activate different immune cells (eg.dendritic cells) and stimulate anti-inflammatory pathway
  • As a source of immunomostimulating compounds such as highly soluble B-glucans and mannan-oligosaccharides

Kluyveromyces B0399 pathogen inhibition:

  • By binding to the surfaces of pathogens (via yeast cell wall components) it causes their elimination from the body
  • Production of SCFA
  • As source of antibactirials (eg.“mycocin”)
  • Intestinal pH reduction

The effect of feeding Kluyveromyces B0399 on the RUMINAL FUNCTION:

  • Stabilisation of rumen PH
  • VFA ratio: reduction in acetic acid, compensated by a significant increase in propionic acid
  • Tendency toward reduced CH4 production in pseudo-ruminant feeding with possible reduction of emissions of this climate-altering gas in farms

* Not all products are available in all markets nor associated claims allowed in all regions.
