Trial 12: Experimental Evaluation Of The Auxinic Effect Of Probiotic Turval Swine In Piglets In Preweaning Phase

It`possible to affirm that Turval Swine is able to fulfil its probiotic action with clear auxinic effects even on piglets in the preweaning phase.

Dott. Paolo Valles/Dott. Gianni Zarabara

TEST METHOD

A comparison was made between the average weight during weaning of 237 piglets treated and weaned until 28th day after birth and the statistical average weight of all piglets during weaning and weaned until 28th day, all on the same farm, in the period July '96 - July '97.
a) Piglets treated ( crossbreeds: Italian Landrace (L) x Large White (LW), female line x Duroc (D) male line) 237 in number, weaned in September '97, fed on a prestarter fodder (F) produced at the farm Foschia and integrated with probiotic Turval Swine in the ratio of 200g per quintal.
b) Piglets untreated (control): ( crossbreeds: Italian Landrace (L) x Large White (LW), female lin x Duroc (D) male line) 3500 in number, fed on same prestarter fodder (F) weaned in the period July '96 - July '97. The test was carried out at the stock farm of Mr. Silvio Foschia- Udine

MATERIALS

F: prestarter fodder

Produced by: Foschia stock farm of Udine.

Components: Cornmeal, corn flakes, soft wheat bran, soybean extract flour, softwheat rough flour, powdered milk serum, barley wheat, oat flakes, harangueflour, animal and vegetable fats, limestone calcium carbonate, sugar canemolasses, monocalcium phosphate, sodium chloride, Hcl lysine, DL- methionin, zinc oxide, aroma, carbodax;

Turval Swine: probiotic integrator.

Produced by: Biochemio srl, Pradamano (Udine), Italy. Authorization N.MG 252 of 27/09/94.

Components: balanced mixture of natural products: Turval B (a mixture of selected, bioligically active lactic yeasts, fermentation substrata, cellular metabolites such as amino acids, nucleotides, vitamins), powdered milk serum, fine bran of wheat.

REMARKS ON THE ECONOMICS ASPECTS

The major weight gain of the group studied as compared to the one used as reference was of 0.570 kg/piglet, equal to 7.6%. This allows for the following increase in yield per individual, calculated on the basis of the average market quotation of 5400 lira per kg.

Major yield per piglet weaned: ITL 5400 x 0.570 = ITL. 3.078
Major cost per piglet treated (cost integrated with Turval Swine): ITL 105
Major profit per piglet treated. ITL 3078 - ITL 105 = ITL 2.973

The results confirm those already obtained in preceding tests. In particular, they reinforce the data resulting from the tests done on piglets at the 2nd post-weaning phase (18-28 kg/piglet, test n.11 of July 24, 1997).
It's therefore possible to affirm that Turval Swine is able to fulfil its probiotic action with clear auxinic effects even on piglets in the preweaning phase.

PERIOD OF TESTING OF CONTROLLED PIGLETS: from July 1996 to July 1997
