Trial 44: Experimental evaluation of improving effect of TURVAL 4 cattle probiotic on fattening process yield.

Cesare Lui D.V.M. (Mantova), Dr. Paolo Valles (Trieste)

Summary

The test confirmed the increase in ingestion. The greater final weight of the treated group demonstrates that the administration of TURVAL 4 CATTLE in the fattening stage results in an increase in yield.

Method

The test was carried out in a farm: Arrighini – Calvatone CR, Italy.
34 female mixed French crossbreed calves were used. They were divided into three homogeneous groups placed in three separate stalls, one accommodating 12 animals, and the other two 11. All the calves were fed with a UNIFEED technique from a mixing wagon. The group of 12 was also given 10 gr. of TURVAL 4 CATTLE per head/day for 60 days.

Materials

. F: UNIFEED feed .
Manufacturing company: composition determined directly by the veterinary, and including silo corn, hay from permanent meadows, soy extraction flour, dried mangel-wurzel pulp, corn and barley meal, sunflower extraction flour, mineral and vitamin supplements.
.TURVAL 4 Cattle :: Ingredients: a balanced mixture of natural products such as Turval B0399 (mixture of tipifyed lactic yeasts Kluyveromyces B0399, fermentation substrates; cellular metabolites such as amino acids, nucleotides and vitamins); Saccaromyces Cerevisae (Yea-Sacc) powdered milk whey; fine wheat bran.

Remarks on the results of the test

As shown by the table below, the following facts may be pointed out:
_      The 12 female calves that were given TURVAL 4 CATTLE ate 1.350 kg. of UNIFEED a day more than the two control groups, with an increase in ingestionof 670 gr. of dry matter.
_      The final mean weight was 560 kg., with a mean increase of 4.8 kg. in the 12 treated animals. Considering a starting weight of 420 kg., this means approximately a 3% increase in fattening process yieldin the treated animals.

Economic remarks

Since the diet of the three groups was identical and the cost of the diet supplement is 150 Italian lire per head/day, the gain in weight determines an increase in profit of approximately 19,680 lire per head, considering a price of 4,100 lire per kg. on live weight. Another factor that cannot be quantified exactly, but is very important in the overall balance of the farm, is the reduction in medical expenses resulting from the use of the probiotic.

Conclusions

The purpose of this test was to verify whether the administration of a specific probiotic for cattle like TURVAL 4 CATTLE causes, besides an increase in ingestion, also an increase in fattening process yield. The test confirmed the increase in ingestion. The greater final weight of the treated group demonstrates that the administration of TURVAL 4 CATTLE in the fattening stage results in an increase in yield. The auxinic effect is due to an overall improvement of the metabolism. In economic terms, this corresponds to an increase in proceeds of 10.04 € per head obtained with an increase in expenditure of 4.60 €. Moreover, the reduction in medical expenses has a considerable effect on the overall balance of the farm.
